Thanks for the heads up on this. We know what happens when 'enemies' give up nuclear weapons, Libya, and when they don't, North Korea.

Mordechai Vanunu served his sentence but is still not free. They won't let him speak to journalists or emigrate from Israel. This from, the ME's "only democracy." Sharing common ideals seems more and more an accurate description.

Furthering the dismemberment of what has historically been a diverse (ethnically, linguistically, religiously), yet pluralistic and largely contiguous region into ever smaller artificial constructs is a must for the continued existence of an ethno-supremacist exclusivist settler colony that was forcibly implanted in the heart of West Asia by Western imperialists.

Formalising the Sykes-Picot lines with the mandates in 1919-1920 (in collusion of the Hashemites, Maronites etc.) was only the first step, to sever historic Palestine from Greater Syria (Bilad al-Sham). Resultantly, resisting and dismantling colonial authority was contained within these newly imposed 'homelands'. Concurrently, as a result of incorporating the Balfour Declaration into the Mandate for Palestine, the Yishuv (i.e. early Zionist colonizers) became dominant politically, economically and militarily (despite being only 15 percent of the population and owing less than 5 percent of the land at the eve of WWII). While the people of what became Iraq, Syria made progress in shaking off the colonial yoke by the mid-late 1930s, Palestinian society virtually collapsed by 1939 as the British and Zionists ruthlessly put down the uprising which broke out in 1936. As armed resistance movements were systematically eliminated with brutal efficiency (i.e. massacring scores of civilians in the process), they practically became sitting ducks by the time Zionist militias started to ethnically cleanse Palestine in late 1947.

Fast forward to more recent times, a strategy of quelling pan-Arabism coupled with fermenting further fragmentation along ethno-religious lines has been crucial to securing Zionist hegemony between the Jordan and Mediterranean. Their vision for the region is rooted in the European concept of nationalism, which entails a complete dismantling of the pluralism that existed for centuries until the end of WWI. In their eyes, a 'Jewish State' in West Asia would look perfectly legitimate and natural if it were alongside a 'Druze State' and a 'Maronite State' and an 'Alawite State' and a 'Kurdish State' and so on. The same logic is even extended to the Palestinians, which is why they refer to Jordan as the 'Palestinian State'.

In short, a project of massive social engineering began in the wake of the Treaty of Versailles to chop up West Asia into smaller and smaller pieces because that was, and remains the only way an artificially constructed European settler colony can be sustained in a region where it doesn't belong (little surprise that even the 'natives' that were reluctantly co-opted - i.e. Mesopotamian, Maghrebi, Bedouin Jews - were 'de-Arabized' on arrival in ways similar to the forced assimilation of indigenous peoples that survived the onslaught of White Europeans in North America, Australia).
