Hawley Gloats Over House Passage of His Legislation that Targets China on Covid Origins While Ignoring US Government Culpability

Massie put forward a rule to ensure passage of Hawley's bill. All this seems part of a highly coordinated agenda by the "intelligence community".

In my questioning, I raised the issue of the Senate legislation by Sen. Josh Hawley re declassifying information implicating the Wuhan Institute of Virology — but not other institutions, as I have detailed.

I also noted earlier how Hawley flipped his rhetoric on Ukraine to position himself to get rightwing buy-in for his phony pandemic legislation, which he has falsely claimed will declassify “all of the information the federal government has on Covid origins”.

Hawley is now boasting that his bill just cleared the House, writing a grandstanding letter to the President of China.

NPR reports: “A bill to declassify COVID-19's origins clears the House and heads to Biden.”

NPR quotes Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Turner, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee: "The American public deserves answers to every aspect of COVID 19 pandemic including how this virus was created, and specifically whether it was a natural occurrence or was the result of a lab related event."

But as I noted in my first piece on Hawley, that’s not what the legislation does. It only tells the Director of National Intelligence to release information indicting the Wuhan Institute of Virology, but not other US (or even Chinese) institutions or individuals. I.e., it let USAID, DTRA, DARPA, NIH et al. off the hook.

Turner appears to have sponsored the House legislation which isn’t even posted on the website, but is presumably identical to the Hawley legislation:

In fact, Rep. Thomas Massie, who is a member of the Rules Committee, put forward a rule to ensure passage of Hawley’s bill: “Upon adoption of this resolution it shall be in order to consider in the House the bill (S. 619) to require the Director of National Intelligence to declassify information relating to the origin of COVID–19, and for other purposes.”

This may appear to be surprising given Massie’s general maverick reputation. Here he is, apparently facilitating (and voted for) a bill that gives every appearance of protecting USAID, DTRA, DARPA, NIH and other US government and nongovernment agencies which might have culpability for the pandemic. (This was foreshadowed to me in that his office was one that I approached about acknowledging Israel’s nuclear weapons arsenal. They never got back.)

I have no idea if members of Congress have actually read the legislation and realize how limited it is.

Limited may be too kind a word. It’s consistent with the theory that the US government seems intent on pinning the entire thing on China with minimal accountability to US institutions.

NPR reports: “It's not clear whether or not President Biden would sign the bill.” It’s just a wild hunch on my part, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the DNI wrote the bill.

All this — the recent hearings, the Hawley legislation, the WSJ piece — seem part of a coordinated effort on the part of the “intelligence community” to own the pandemic story and use it for their purposes.

One factor that made this possible was because so many on “the left” and in “independent media” dismissed the possibility of lab origin, spent their time attacking those of us trying to get at the facts. They effectively surrendered the issue to the anti-Chinese elements in the Republican (and Democratic) parties.

As I warned in April 2020:

By not taking on the issue of biowarfare, the left is effectively turning it over to the pro-war right which is weaponizing it against China instead of taking a comprehensive approach to ensure a bioweapons arms race doesn't continue to threaten humanity.
