It would be nice to remind these people that per the Geneva Convention, the penalty for doing gain of function work is to be hanged by the neck until they are dead. And even though the Patriot Act was passed with a sentence that said that this part of the treaty was null and void, it isn't going to fly to alter a treaty in that manner.
