Did the Israel Lobby Push for the TikTok Bill so that its Allies Could Control it?

ADL and other pro-Israeli groups got the long stalled TikTok legislation through Congress, now Mnuchin, who is allied with Israeli spooks, is trying to buy the platform.

Building off of my piece from Friday -- "Is TikTok Censorship Bill Finally Getting Passed Tied to Israel?" -- I put out the news release below via accuracy.org this morning. You'd think that there would be a path to having a platform like this (and others) be owned by the users. I've been wondering why some large scale platform like that hasn't arisen. I don't particularly enjoy being on X, like most of these platforms, addiction is part of their business model. If TikTok were totally owned by China, there may be an easier path for China -- if it really wanted to stick it to the US deep state -- to gift TikTok to the youth of the world. It could turn over ownership to a nonprofit or cooperative based in the US and dedicated to global dialogue and the First Amendment. And such an entity I think would draw a great deal of support. And it could have a strong revenue stream if people could donate to the creators on the platform, rather than going through Patreon and such (though Whitney Webb warns of banking on platforms). As it stands, it looks like one arm of the pro-Israel lobby forced the sale -- what could be something of a fire sale given that there's a deadline (tick, toc...) -- while another arm of the pro-Israel forces seem poised to capture control of the platform. (And just because the legislation hasn’t become law, realistically doesn’t mean they are not arguably already forcing a sale.)

Is the Targeting of TikTok Actually About Israel? -- Interviews Available

AP reports: “Former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says he’s putting together investor group to buy TikTok.” See from 2021 Axios: “Scoop: Israeli spy chief in talks to join Mnuchin’s investment fund” and from the Times of Israel: “Former U.S. treasurer Mnuchin leads $275 million funding in Israeli Cybereason.” In January, the Jerusalem Post ran the piece “Time to invest in Israel, says former U.S. treasury secretary Mnuchin.”

Craig Mokhiber, former director of the New York office of the UN High Commission on Human Rights, stated: “They are not trying to ban #TikTok. They are trying to use government power to force TikTok to be taken over by pro-Israel ownership to silence criticism of #Genocide and #apartheid.” The Wall Street Journal recently reported of the bill targeting TikTok: “It was slow going until Oct. 7.”

He said today: “I think that the decision to pass legislation that could lead to a ban of TikTok and really any website that the U.S. deems necessary is a step that results from several overlapping factors.” The sale would be “a windfall for the investors involved in the buy. …”
