I'd like to add a few points: scientists have no greater moralistic sense than other societal professions including doctors, lawyers, police, etc. It's most unfortunate since their impact on the world can have huge consequences far beyond their numbers. Dwight Eisenhower in his 1961 Farewell Address warned of the dangers inherent in the military-industrial complex that emerged following WWII. In that address, he also warned of the possible cooption of universities as they clamored for lucrative governmental contracts. Eisenhower recognized this danger to democracy years prior to his exiting the White House but didn't take meaningful steps to rein it in... including the firing of CIA director, Allen Dulles. Then of course, post World War II there was Operation Paperclip which included the hiring of German scientists in physics, biology, etc., following that war, cleansing their resumes when needed.
I'll have to read deeper before commenting on the Fauci site of this (thanks for the links), but I super appreciate that you have not promoted the "we must stop using violence to solve political problems" idea. It *sounds* good on the surfacd, but only if you believe that White Empire (as Indi.ca calls it on Medium) is actually trying to solve problems, rather than (as you point out) impose, dominate and exploit other countries and peoples for corporate gain. Two other terms for this are "hidden agenda" and "mystification" described by RD Laing on Marx as a plausible misrepresentation of reality where forms of exploitation are presented as forms of benevolence.

The focus on "gain of function" is ueful, but misses the broader point. Fauci is a weasly liar but his role was comparatively limited. The true villains are not complicit bureaucratic frontmen like Fauci (or Oppenheimer for that matter) but their puppet masters. The real crime committed by Fauci et al was not funding and lying about "gain of function" research but creating a fake "epidemc" that spawned an insane demand (and illegal mandates) for poisonous injections.
We know that "Covid-19" has a vanishingly tiny fatality rate among those under 80, and that the overwhelming majority (if not all) deaths attributed to it were not caused by a lab created virus. Labeling millions as "cases" based on manipulated testing, using lethal interventions like Remdesivir and mechanical respirators in hospitals, and fraudulantly attributing any death following a "positive" test to Covid created the mounting death count we were fed in the media. The real villains are those behind Operation Warp Speed, the military program that created the poisonous Covid shots. The DoD manufactured them, distributed them and promoted "vaccines" that could not prevent infection or transmission but which have caused untold thousands of deaths in the US alone. The deliberate biowarfare was not the alleged creation of SARS-CoV-2 but the much more lethal creation and distribution of the poisonous shots to billions around the world. Gain of function research created both but the damage is being done by the "cure" for the fake virus.
"Excess mortality" is up over 40% worldwide for those under 24 years old this year. More than 30% of the the U.S. labor force has somehow disapeared in 2022-23 due to death or disability. The birth rate plummets. And yet more than 100 colleges require the poison injections for students this fall. The military has deliberately and successfully targeted us with "vaccine" biowarfare, and their frontmen continue the agenda on their behalf. Let's at least say it out loud.
