The so-called "spoiler" effect does not apply in safe states like CA, where the Dems know they have the election in the bag, by an enormous margin (last time, Trump lost here by 5 million votes out of ballpark 15 million cast). It only applies in closely contested states.

Therefore, anyone in a safe state (note how that term has disappeared!) who claims to be "progressive" (let alone radical or leftist) has no excuse for voting for Kamala. *She doesn't need your vote in CA.*

True leftists like Jill Stein do.

We don't vote for president in a national election. We vote for electors in 50 state elections, and CA is winner-take-all. Anyone who wants better thab the Dems, you are free to vote for better!

I will have precisely zero sympathy for California libs who vote for the Dems bellyaching about Gaza or immigration or anything else after she's elected.

If you don't vote your conscience when you arre 100% free to do so, YOU NEVER WILL.

Or you have forgotten how our electoral system actually works.

Or you simply haven't thought it through.

(BTW "you" here is Dear Other Reader, not you. Sam. Thanks for posting your idea).

Thanks Karen. I don't push "safe state" strategy much because it's limited. That is, if lots of people adopted that and lots of people in California started switching from planning on voting for Harris to planning on voting for Stein, then California could well become a "swing" state. VotePact by contrast doesn't weaken with use, it gets stronger. It snowballs.

This is IT... plain and simple. Thank you, Karen!

I don't know of a single trump voter who would vote for anyone else, because that is part of Trump's appeal: only he is The One. Only he can bring on the great white era of eradication and elimination. They want a Hitler. They want concentration camps and enslavement. They're not sure they'll get it with trump, but he's their guy, no matter what. Maybe there's a few wealthy GOP votes to be had, but they'll vote for Holocaust Harris before Stein.

That said, I'm voting for Stein, and I'll keep looking for possible trump voters to join me.

There are lots of would be Trump voters who don't want Hitler. I know a few.

This is such a great idea!! However, it requires logic and authentic integrity (unswerving dedication to our own principles) ... which seems to have gone out the window long ago.

Most dedicated Biden-now-(gleeful)-Harris people i know... do not have their brains on... emotions only and you simply can't reason with that. (plus... they're fine with parking their horror at Gaza, etc on the side because their terror of 45 *justifies* it for them)

Most Trumpers i know are absolutely fine with the slaughter in Gaza... so it seems to me that our 'target market' here is a small niche of people who are true to their values.

The only hope i see for this idea to work is not to appeal to anyone's sense of outrage on anything. Instead... i think there *might* be some ability to show Trumpers that the dude they elected in 2016 is not the same one who's on the ballot now... because he clearly is NOT.

Regardless... VOTING JILL STEIN ... no matter who thinks they'll dissuade me ... and that's how i find most people who actually vote feel about their choice for prez.

Thanks much for your thoughtful note. There are clearly 1 or 2 percent who will vote for Stein. But there's lots more who agree with her and don't have the guts yet. I think of VotePact as a catalyst. If a few people make that pairing, they others might find the courage. And imagine if a celebrity pairing happened. Then it could go mainstream. The tough part is those first few pairings I think. Can you help find them?

People are mostly not ready to take the 'risk' they believe voting outside of the toxic duopoly that we all plainly see. No stopping those of us who are on board. Had lunch with some of the most likely people i know this week. And they're simply not ready.

They still can't get past the idea that maybe kicking 45 off twitter(now x) back before Elon was owner... was maybe not the best idea after all. Simply beyond them. Some of the smartest, open-minded, politically 'progressive' people i've ever known.

Celebs: back in 2016, i recall a couple of popular personalities who supported Bernie very publicly. After he was 'removed' at Dem convention that summer, i recall that both of these people were adament that it didn't matter whether 'chosen' D candidate or the dreaded R won in Nov.

And i simply could not understand how they could say that. Not then. NOW... yes!!

We are all are on our journey and there are some things that even celebs we all admire won't inspire us to shift our voting when we're deeply committed to it. Until we're ready. And then, we don't need them.

BJG recently had an exceptionally long and outstanding convo on her podcast with Vincent Bevins about his book "If We Burn" https://vincentbevins.com/book2/. Shed light on how confusing this current voting situation really is for those of us who believe in it.

What does give me some hope is that despite all the deliberately placed obstacles to Jill Stein's campaign, enough people are supplying the funding and others are carrying out the work to get her on the ballot nearly in every state. Lots of dedication around the country!
