Thank you, Sam, for introducing me to James Abourezk... up until now a man about whom I don't recall every reading before. In the process of that introduction, you also shed some new light on the Israeli lobby and their hold over policy. One often reads contradicting perspective about this in various opinions- i.e. either that Israel is merely a U.S. puppet, or that Israel, through its lobbies, wields a lot of undue influence over U.S. policy.

I suspect it's a bit of both as Israel is at least a proxy for U.S. power projection in the Mid East, and a willing supporter at the UN, etc., and the U.S. will defend Israel from international criticism and sanction no matter how many injustices , no matter how repugnant its Apartheid is.

If only we might see one day again, a few dozen more Abourezks - people willing to fight for principles of justice regardless of the personal consequences.

He attended a meeting of the Break the Bonds group with Dayton to try to get him to divest from Israeli bonds a few years ago. We will miss him. Thanks for the eulogy.

This is Alya Abourezk, Jim’s youngest daughter. Thank you so much for the extensive, lovely article about my dad. He was truly a great force and one-of-a-kind.

Thank you for sharing James Abourezk's leadership in the Senate and his continuing dedication to serving humanity and reducing suffering, while creating intergenerational and international learning organizations to carry on his mission in his communities.

Mr. Abourezk's beautiful focus, "pugnacious" energetic action, and legacy of accomplishments inspire and fuel the ongoing work we must do to build a parallel fourth estate in governance by decentralized, open, transparent and functional coalitions to replace this collapsing empire's unchecked corrupt, corrosive and criminal agencies.

Yesterday Substacker Bill Rice Jr., known for his dedicated coverage of early US covid spread (at least Sept 2019 if not earlier), recommended my post, "Going Accountable" by saying I have a "colorful style and pugnacious attitude."

So with each outburst of "pugnacious attitude" I honor James Abourezk's spirit.

I also honor you, Ussam Husseini: your clear speaking, integrity, and the truth-telling in your principled journalism. You are a light to trust!

The Irgun targeted British soldiers. The Palestinians target civilians. Easily verified and honestly Begin would have made mincemeat of this guy. Clearly not why the discussion was ended

The implication that there is something bad or evil about Israel is disgusting and now quite fashionable. Clearly none of you care at all about Jewish history and have been brainwashed by the fictional "Palestinian" narrative. The Palestinians have had many opportunities to build a state next to Israel but that's not what they want and they cannot have my country.
